How to Make DIY Animal Fridge Magnets with Fix-All Adhesive

Fix-All Adhesive is a great all purpose glue that you can use on most at-home DIY projects. This Animal Fridge Magnet project is a great example of an inexpensive and super easy DIY home project that you can do alone or with kids.

These cute little critters can be used to mark chore charts, hold up grocery lists, or simply used to decorate a metal surface. No matter where you choose to place your animal magnets, you’re sure to have a blast making them.

Animal Fridge Magnets:
Here’s What You’ll Need

  • A few small, solid plastic animals. You can find these online or at most big-box stores. Note: If you find some hollow plastic animals that you’d like to use for this project, simply cut each animal in half and fill with air-dry clay. This will create a solid backing for your animal that you can then use to attach your magnet.
  • A box cutter or other sharp blade. As long as it has a straight edge, you should be good.
  • Magnets. You can use standard decorative ceramic magnets or you can spend a little extra on some smaller rare earth magnets.
  • Fix-All Adhesive
  • Optional: Spray paint. We like how these animals look once they’re coated with a little metallic gold or silver spray paint.
  • Optional: Plastic ‘Googly Eyes’. Make a fun project even more fun by adding a pair of ‘googly eyes’.
  • Finally, one brick of air-dry clay if you are using hollow plastic animals.

Making Your Magnets

  1. If you’re spray painting your plastic animals, now is the time to do so. Make sure they are completely dry before continuing. Note: Always work on a protected surface in a well-ventilated area when using spray paints or other aerosols.
  2. Once the animals have completely dried, carefully cut them in half using the smooth downward motions to avoid ragged edges.
  3. Clean up any rough edges with the knife.
  4. If you have hollow animal figurines, fill the insides with air-dry clay and set them out to harden up.
  5. Once you’ve done that, simply glue one of the magnets to each half of the animals and let dry.
  6. Optional: If you want to add a little touch of silliness, you can glue ‘googly eyes’ over the eyes on the figurine for an extra whimsical look.

Enjoy Your New Animal Fridge Magnets!

Be sure to place your fun animal magnets where they’ll be seen and adored! Of course, you can follow and apply the same steps using other objects that you think would make for an interesting magnet.

You can pick up a bag of extra Scrabble tiles and turn those into fridge magnets. They’re a fun way to pass the time while waiting for something on the stove to boil.

Whatever you decide to do with this ‘magnetic’ idea, the sky’s the limit!
