Fixing a Coolant Line Leak

Coolant leaks are a common problem. However, thankfully they can be easy to spot because the source of the leak can usually be seen. In general, a coolant leak can cause an engine to overheat. You can first inspect the engine and cooling system by looking for a sign of antifreeze spillage on the ground underneath your parked car.

Once the coolant line has been identified, remove it and prepare to apply the pipe sealant. Make sure that the parts are dry and clean before doing so. Next, spread the sealant all the way around the fitting and use the nozzle to push it into the threads. Reassemble the coolant line and wait two hours before handling and 1 day before testing.

With this simple and effective form of maintenance, you can get off the road to financially burdensome repairs and instead enjoy the smoother ride of DIY car care.
